Conversation Categories in WhatsApp Business – Meta’s New Pricing Model for 2023

Starting June 1, 2023, companies that use WhatsApp Business They will be charged different rates for conversation categories

These 4 new categories are divided into two groups: 

1) Business-Initiated Conversations: 

UTILITY

Updates on ongoing purchases/transactions, post-purchase notifications, billing summary, etc.

AUTHENTICATION

Allows businesses to authenticate users with one-time passcodes (login, verification, and account recovery processes).

MARKETING

Anything that does not qualify as Utility or Authentication. Includes promotions or offers, information submissions, invitations to respond or take action. 

These conversations are started using pre-approved template messages by WhatsApp.

2) User-initiated conversations: 

SERVICE CONVERSATIONS

All user-initiated conversations that help customers resolve queries. 

Companies will also be able to continue testing WhatsApp Business with 1,000 free user-initiated conversations per month. Conversations started by businesses will no longer be included in the free tier.
