As we mentioned in the previous article, after Meucci's death in 1889, the dispute over the telephone patent was closed shortly afterwards. The field was clear for the new Bell company and its descendants. There was a whole planet to wire and a whole century to make money. Thus, the Bell company and its engineers were introducing successive improvements over the years.
Several milestones can be pointed out:
- The introduction of the carbon microphone, which considerably increased the power emitted, and therefore the maximum range of communication.
- The Luink anti-local device, to avoid hearing disturbance caused by ambient noise in the premises where the telephone is installed.
- The pulse dialingthrough the so-called dial.
- The tone dialing
- The introduction of the electret microphone either electret, microphone of condenser, used in practically all modern devices, which considerably improves sound quality.
- The cable is replaced by a radio transmitter which makes wireless communication possible.
- Introduction of a camera and a screen that allows video calls with other phones with the same characteristics.
